On Wednesday, May 22, beach visitors stumbled upon a body hidden in the undergrowth, just a few meters from the entrance to Beach 72 in Playa del Carmen. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with initial suspicions pointing towards a possible suicide.
The body was discovered in a dense, brush-filled area close to a small cenote. Upon receiving the news, police officers and personnel from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) promptly arrived at the scene to initiate investigations.
The identity of the deceased remains undisclosed at this time. Forensic Service (Semefo) examiners were called to the scene to transport the body to the morgue for further examination.
In addition, agents from the Ministerial Police were dispatched to the area to interview potential witnesses and gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Once the necessary procedures have been completed, the family of the deceased will be able to claim the body and commence with funeral arrangements.
