Governor Provides 39 Prosthetics for Mobility Freedom

The Quintana Roo DIF system has provided 38 individuals with 39 lower limb prosthetics, helping them regain mobility and independence. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa emphasised the ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents, preventing discrimination, and fostering inclusivity.

The distribution event occurred at the TecMilenio University auditorium on the Cancun campus. The recipients hailed from various regions including Benito Juarez, Tulum, Puerto Morelos, Solidaridad, Lazaro Cardenas, and Isla Mujeres. The Governor expressed her hope for the beneficiaries to lead normal lives.

She said, "I hope these prosthetics mark the beginning of a life fully enjoyed. A chance to rediscover what was lost and to live a normal life. You are extraordinary individuals, and we are here around the clock for those in need. We are humans helping humans to prevent discrimination and promote inclusion."

The state government partnered with the Quintana Roo DIF System, municipal DIFs, and the State Public Charity to provide these prosthetics. They were given to individuals with motor disabilities resulting from transfemoral and transtibial amputations, aiming to improve their mobility and overall well-being. A Boston Corset was also provided as functional support.

Veronica Lezama Espinosa, the honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF, praised the dedication of the Quintana Roo Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (CRIQ) staff. She also acknowledged the acquisition of external prosthetics through the Social Assistance Support Subprogram and the assets of the State Public Charity.

She said, "This inclusive vision and passionate commitment to the well-being of Quintana Roo's residents led us to this initiative. It's more than just a 'prosthetic delivery'; it's about restoring mobility and independence to those who have faced significant challenges."

The report noted that the CRIQ staff created 32 of the prosthetics in their orthotics and prosthetics department. The remaining seven were obtained externally through the Social Assistance Support Subprogram. The Boston Corset was acquired through the assets of the State Public Charity.
