Cabo San Lucas (CSL) has emerged as one of the top tourist destinations in Mexico, boasting a high number of arrivals in the first quarter of 2024. The Mexican Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) recently released data on the influx of tourists via cruises during this period.
The data revealed that the arrival of cruise passengers in Mexico contributed to a foreign exchange income of $253.2 million. The average expenditure per person was $83.8, a 3.6% increase from the same period in 2023, which was $80.9.
The total estimated arrival of tourists to Mexican ports was around 3 million. The majority of these tourists arrived in Cozumel and Mahahual in Quintana Roo, Ensenada in Baja California, Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur, and Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco. These locations accounted for 90.2% of the total arrivals.
In the first quarter of 2024, Cozumel, Quintana Roo, received 424 arrivals, totaling 1,450,631 passengers. Mahahual reported 166 arrivals, with 657,477 cruise passengers, marking a 14.5% increase in ships and a 34.3% increase in passengers compared to the first quarter of 2023.
From January to March 2024, Ensenada, Baja California, saw the arrival of 67 cruises, bringing in 201,470 passengers. Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, welcomed 58 ships with a total of 189,321 passengers. Finally, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, received 55 cruises with 177,276 passengers.
