Sculptural Art Transforming Cancun Beaches!

Cancun's public beaches are set to become even more attractive with the addition of sculptures and other artistic expressions. Carlos del Castillo, director of the "Distrito Cancun" project, highlighted the positive impact of five relocated sculptures at Playa Delfines, now a popular photo spot.

Del Castillo noted that since their installation at the beach known as El Mirador, the sculptures have significantly enhanced the visitor experience. Previously, these artworks were located in Las Palapas park and often went unnoticed.

"Cancun needs to elevate its artistic offerings, and it would be incredible to have sculptural pieces representing each beach on the public beaches," he said.

The sculptures were relocated as part of a park remodeling and beautification project. Previously, they were situated on a stage in the park, where children often climbed on them, posing a potential safety risk.

Working with the Institute of Culture and the Arts, General Services, and the Federal Maritime Land Zone (Zofemat), the sculptures were moved to Playa Delfines. This new location has made the artwork more meaningful and iconic, according to del Castillo.

General Services workers, supervised by personnel from the Institute of Culture and the Arts, moved the pieces to the beach. They were then anchored in a corridor between the sidewalk and the overlook.

Del Castillo expressed his delight that both locals and tourists can now enjoy this new attraction at Playa Delfines.

Plans are underway to install a plaque at the site, and once the creator of the work is identified, a technical file of the artwork will also be added.

As for the stage at Las Palapas park, where the sculptures were previously located, it will undergo a makeover with new bamboo wood panels, colors, and murals.
