The Nautical Associates of Quintana Roo and the Cancun Rotary Club have announced plans to create at least five new artificial reefs in various parts of the state in the coming months. One of these reefs will be located in the El Meco area.

The project is jointly funded by both groups with the goal of enhancing the proliferation of coral reefs. This initiative will also promote tourist tours, contributing to the local economy.

These artificial reefs will be constructed using the structure of ships, which are already prepared to be sunk outside the protected natural areas. All structures will be securely anchored to the seabed to prevent detachment and damage in the event of hurricanes.

The exact locations for the remaining reefs are currently under analysis. The groups plan to publicly announce this project in a press conference in the coming days.
