Cancún, Q. Roo.- The low season in Akumal is thriving due to the absence of sargassum and the collaborative efforts of local businesses to provide visitors with an unforgettable experience. The natural beauty of the area, combined with the organization and promotion of ecotourism, allows water activities in Akumal to continue operating productively. Manuel Jiménez Aguilar, a veteran of over 30 years in the water tour industry, stated that everyone involved is working together to ensure high-quality service and to maintain the pristine image of the destination. This commitment has resulted in a steady stream of returning tourists, who are drawn back to the wonders of Akumal Bay.

"We're doing well, operating at around 60 to 70% of our total capacity; a great figure for this time of year. We have a lot of repeat tourism, and we also work with several travel agencies, so the bay is always bustling. Over the past two weeks, there was a significant amount of sargassum, but we're well-organized in Akumal. It was a challenge for a few days, but currently, the bay is clean," Aguilar commented.

Aguilar further explained that while other destinations face high competition, Akumal's limitations actually help to mitigate the impact of the off-season. He noted that while they are currently welcoming foreign tourists, they anticipate an increase in Mexican visitors over the summer, further boosting the local economy.

Aguilar also mentioned that the summer vacation period from July to August tends to be more profitable than the winter holidays. He highlighted that they offer a range of activities including marine turtle sightings on boats or swimming circuits, as well as tours and sports fishing. All these activities are carried out with the necessary permits and in compliance with the regulations of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (Conanp).
