Today, Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz led the distribution of electronic cards to local fishermen. These cards, pre-loaded with 2,640 pesos, can be used to purchase essential food items.
The event took place at the Cooperative Fishing Society of Puerto Morelos. Five fishermen, including one woman and four men, were the first to receive these cards. In total, 47 cards are being provided by the Ministry of Agricultural, Rural, and Fisheries Development (Sedarpe) to support the fishermen during the lobster fishing ban.
Mayor Muñoz also confirmed that additional support is forthcoming. This includes funding for the improvement of the collection center at the Puerto Morelos Fishermen's Cooperative. She expressed optimism that the refurbishment of the fishermen's dock could commence in a few weeks.
The first five recipients of the electronic cards were Fabiola Sánchez, Juan Francisco Povedano Canché, Manuel Jesús Ku Carrillo, Cristóbal Vázquez López, and Jacinto Guadalupe López Sánchez.
