Experience New Heights of Global Connectivity: Tulum Welcomes JetBlue & Copa

Cancún currently boasts air links to 24 domestic destinations, 35 cities in the US, 18 in Canada, 16 in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and 15 in Europe, through 49 different airlines. In the coming days, Quintana Roo is set to welcome two new international flights, enhancing its global connectivity and allowing more visitors to explore the central and southern parts of the state.

These new flights are part of Governor Mara Lezama's initiative to usher in a new era of tourism, ensuring that tourism success translates into prosperity for the people of Quintana Roo. JetBlue Airways will soon begin flights on the New York-Tulum route, and from June 26, Copa will commence flights on the Panama-Tulum route. This will also boost air operations at the recently inaugurated Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport.

This is a practical example of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, a plan championed by Governor Lezama to enhance connectivity within the state. Between June 1 and 7, Quintana Roo recorded 1,979 arrivals, with 766 domestic and 1,213 international, across its four airports (Cancún, Cozumel, Tulum, and Chetumal).

During this period, a record 441,455 tourists visited the Mexican Caribbean, with 39.3% from the US, 28.6% from Mexico, 14.8% from Canada, and the remainder from various countries including the UK, France, Colombia, Argentina, Germany, Spain, and Brazil.

Hotel occupancy rates were also high, with Costa Mujeres recording the highest at 80.6%. This was followed by Isla Mujeres at 78.8%, Cancún at 73.3%, Tulum at 69.7%, Riviera Maya at 69.1%, Cozumel at 61.9%, Puerto Morelos at 60.4%, and Grand Costa Maya at 42.1%.

In the cruise sector, the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (APIQROO) recorded 19 floating hotels in Cozumel and seven in Mahahual, totaling 26 ships. Between June 10 and 13, eight cruise ships are expected to arrive in Mahahual, and between June 11 and 16, 14 floating hotels are expected in Cozumel.

JetBlue is expanding its service to the new Mexican airport of Tulum, complementing its existing service to nearby Cancún. The airline recently announced that it would begin operating in Tulum, its fourth destination in Mexico. The daily non-stop service from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Tulum's Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) commences on June 13. Tulum, located on the Caribbean coast of the Riviera Maya, is renowned for its tranquil beaches, vibrant ecological life, and rich Mayan history.
