Admiral Ojeda and Governor Mara Lezama recently convened at the C5 security complex to discuss strategies against sargassum in Quintana Roo. The meeting emphasized Mexico's unique approach, where all three tiers of government – the state government, the Secretary of the Navy, and the Mexican Government – collaborate cohesively.
During the meeting, they evaluated the progress of various projects designed to tackle the sargassum issue. These projects include the installation of barriers at several locations across the state, such as Puerto Morelos, Mahahual, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum.
Admiral Ojeda highlighted that Quintana Roo is the only region that is actively combating sargassum in a coordinated manner. As a result, they will be participating in an International Forum, alongside the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, to showcase their efforts in this battle.
Additionally, the Secretary of the Navy and the Governor of Quintana Roo explored the idea of engaging a team of Navy experts to assist the state in assessing alternative projects. These projects are needed by Chetumal and Holbox to mitigate the effects of rainfall in these municipalities.
Governor Mara Lezama expressed her gratitude to the Secretary of the Navy for their invaluable assistance during the recent rainfall emergency in the state.
