To combat vector-borne diseases like dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde has spearheaded a Mega Fumigation and Thermal Fogging Drive across Isla Mujeres. The initiative is in collaboration with the Quintana Roo Ministry of Health and the Vector area. The drive will cover all neighborhoods within the municipality.

The fumigation efforts kicked off in the La Gloria, Ampliación La Gloria, Meteorológico, Salina Chica, and Centro neighborhoods. The campaign will continue in the Port Facility and the Electricistas, Caribeña, Salina Grande, Caridad del Cobre, Miraflores, Lol-Bé, Cañotal neighborhoods, as well as the Sac Bajo and Garrafón roads.

The goal of the health authorities and the Isla Mujeres City Council is to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and prevent their spread. Mayor Gómez Ricalde has also encouraged residents to participate in the Permanent Junk Disposal Program activities.

Teresa Gómez Herrera, the Municipal Health Director, stressed the importance of removing any containers that could collect water from homes. She also urged families to stay informed about the schedule and routes of the fumigation drive, which will soon cover the Continental Zone and Francisco May. Furthermore, she announced that all schools in the area will be fumigated.
