The governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, has announced the return of direct flights between Brasilia and Cancun. The service, provided by Gol Linhas Aéreas airline, will commence on December 10, operating twice weekly.

Lezama stated, "This new airline connection will significantly increase the number of visitors to Quintana Roo. It will also contribute to job creation and the economic development of the region. This achievement reflects our commitment to the well-being and development of Quintana Roo.”

Rafael Araujo, Director of Airline Planning for Gol, added, “The direct flights to Cancun, one of the world's largest tourist destinations, represent a huge benefit for Brazilians, Mexicans, and other leisure travelers from across South America."

Jesús Almaguer, president of the Mexican Caribbean Hotel Council, also welcomed the news. He said, "This is evidence of the destination's continued appeal, despite past visa issues. It also presents an opportunity for the federal government to streamline the process by introducing electronic visas.”

Almaguer, who has repeatedly urged the government to introduce electronic visas, pointed out that Mexico's visa requirement for Brazil primarily benefits the United States. This is because while Cancun sees a decrease in Brazilian travelers, the United States promotes its destinations in Brazil.

Despite promises that electronic visas for Brazilian tourists would be reintroduced in May, there has been no progress as of June 20. This was confirmed by the state Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto, and Lilian Zanon, honorary consul of Brazil in Cancun. Cueto said, "There is no progress, we still have no news. We are keeping a close eye on this situation and will keep the public informed.”
