CANCUN – Beginning today, August 8, new restrictions will be in place for travelers returning to the UK from Cancun and other destinations in Mexico.

This announcement made last week, has caused some of the more than 6,000 British tourists currently in Mexican territory to flee back to their home country.

British citizens returning after August 8, will have to do a 10-day quarantine in a hotel, an inconvenience which can entail a cost of more than 1700 pounds in accommodations and meals, as reported by Preferente.

Travelers must confine themselves in hotels authorized by the British authorities, which must be reserved in advance. Travelers must also provide two negative COVID-19 tests during quarantine. For children under 10 years of age, the testing is waived.

For Mexican students studying in the UK, the British government will allow their entry, as long as they already have the proper temporary visa (temporary stamp). Any other travelers entering the country, will be subjected to the same entry requirements such as confinement and tests.
