The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) established a community kitchen at Parque Dos Aguas in Tulum, providing food to locals affected by Hurricane Beryl. The kitchen served a menu of tuna salad, rice, and beans to approximately 400 people from 3:00 pm onwards.
Most of the recipients were residents who had been evacuated from the 2 de Octubre settlement and Punta Allen, a fishing village situated 60 kilometers from central Tulum. Around 30 Sedena members prepared over 2,500 food rations, which were distributed on Friday, shortly after Beryl hit the Quintana Roo coastline.
Meanwhile, just a few meters away from the community dining area, restaurants were bustling with tourists, mainly foreigners, seeking food. Most of these establishments had ceased service at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
Once Beryl had passed and was downgraded to a tropical storm, economic activity across Quintana Roo quickly resumed. In Cancun and the hotel zone, businesses, public transport, shopping centers, shipping companies, tourist carriers, and airlines were all back in operation.
Additionally, Quintana Roo's governor, Mara Lezama, lifted the alcohol ban, allowing restaurants, nightclubs, bars, and liquor stores to recommence the sale of alcoholic beverages.
