The Isla Mujeres port has partially reopened, allowing only vessels larger than 40 feet to navigate its waters. This decision comes after the port's closure due to heavy rain and wind from Hurricane "Beryl". Operations resumed early Saturday for boats running federal routes from Isla Mujeres to Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam.
Tourist vessels over 40 feet have also been granted permission to sail, including trips to Isla Contoy. However, smaller boats, including those operated by fishermen, whale shark permit holders, tourist cooperatives, and marinas, are still awaiting authorization.
Although the swell has subsided, port authorities have decided to wait for a clearer overview before allowing smaller vessels to set sail. They anticipate that nautical activities for these boats will be approved within the next few hours, or by tomorrow at the latest.
The Regional Port Captaincy has already reopened the Nichupté lagoon in Cancun's hotel zone for general navigation. They also suggested that, weather permitting, El Farito and Makax lagoon might be reopened in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, the local fishing sector is eagerly awaiting the green light to resume their daily operations. Local seamen are hopeful that the hurricane's aftermath will result in a plentiful lobster season.
