Following the devastation of Hurricane Beryl in Yucatan, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) has reopened 12 archaeological sites in the region. All sites, except for Chichen Itza, are now open to the public. The reopened sites include Acanceh, Ake, Chacmultun, Ek Balam, and Uxmal, among others.
Chichen Itza is currently undergoing clean-up operations and will remain closed until tomorrow. The Grand Museum of the site will also stay closed until Monday.
To ensure the safety and preservation of these historical sites, INAH has put in place the Cultural Heritage Disaster Prevention Program (Previnah). Visitors are encouraged to be understanding of the situation and consider exploring other areas such as Ek Balam.
The reopening of these sites marks a significant step towards the revival of cultural tourism in Yucatan following the hurricane's impact.
