Many tourists visiting Tulum had the unexpected experience of enduring Hurricane Beryl. This was a first-time experience for many, leaving them with unforgettable memories. After the storm had passed, they ventured out to see what the hurricane had left in its wake.
One visitor from Paris, France, was visiting Tulum for the second time, this time with her parents. Despite being familiar with the destination, experiencing a hurricane was a new and surprising experience for all three of them. They were warned to stay in their rooms when the storm started, but the morning after the hurricane, they found the streets deserted. With no internet or water, they decided to venture out and see the aftermath. She was relieved to find that the damage was less severe than she had anticipated. Despite the lodging center where they were staying not suffering any damage, she suggested that the protocols for informing tourists about incoming hurricanes could be improved.
Geronimo and Ulises, two tourists from Argentina, also shared their experiences. They described the hurricane as a "strong" experience but managed to maintain a sense of humor throughout. They were relieved to find that the damage was minimal and even saw the hurricane as having an ecological purpose. Geronimo, from Buenos Aires, mentioned that they felt safe in their hotel during the storm. Ulises, from Cordoba, noted that while there was some damage in the city, it was relatively mild. They plan to continue their vacation in the Mexican Caribbean for another two weeks, now with a unique story to share about experiencing a hurricane in Mexico.
Tulum was the location where the category 2 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h and gusts of 215 km/h, made landfall.
