Atenea Gómez Ricalde, the Mayor of Isla Mujeres, recently met with environmentalists to move forward with plans for an Animal Welfare Center in the Insular Zone of the municipality. The center is designed to rescue and shelter pets that are homeless or have suffered abuse. Services offered will include adoption, vaccination, sterilization, deworming, and veterinary consultations.

The proposed Animal Welfare Center will be a two-story building, featuring a variety of areas including a reception area, adoption room, medical facilities, cages, grooming services, a garden, parking, administrative offices, bathrooms, and stairs.

During the meeting, environmentalists presented suggested modifications to the project, highlighting the importance of input from all sectors in decision-making processes.
