A violent incident unfolded inside Cenotes Casa Tortuga in Tulum when armed individuals in a vehicle opened fire on two alleged extortionists. One of the victims died on the spot, while the other managed to flee, later seeking treatment at a private hospital. The attack was reported just after 8 pm, occurring at kilometer 239 on the Tulum-Playa del Carmen federal stretch.

First responders to the scene included the National Guard and the Preventive Municipal Police. They discovered one individual suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite attempts by medics from Tulum Hospital to provide first aid, the victim was already deceased. The Ministerial Police noted the deceased had gunshot wounds to the chest, wrist, and right thigh.

As the body was being retrieved, CostaMed Hospital staff requested police assistance due to a patient arriving with gunshot wounds to the forearm. This individual was identified as having been shot at the same location. Both victims were reportedly involved in extortion, demanding 200 pesos per person from taxi drivers and transport companies bringing tourists to the establishment.
