The Mayan Train has reportedly carried over 200,000 passengers since its launch. The full route is expected to be operational by September. The current operational sections of the train have seen 246,929 passengers in 205 days of operation, according to the general director of the Mayan Train, Óscar David Lozano Águila.
The operational sections of the train span from Palenque, Chiapas, to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. The service prides itself on punctuality and quality for the benefit of its users. Since its inauguration on December 16, 2023, the Mayan Train has transported enough people to fill the Aztec Stadium 2.6 times over.
The complete 1554-kilometer circuit is set to be finished in September. This will connect and stimulate the development of 36 municipalities in Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Yucatan. Ten long-distance trains have already been dispatched to the Cancun station.
The Mayan Train project is progressing with the delivery of 17 convoys, serving both local residents and tourists. The general director of Alstom, Maite Ramos Gómez, announced that train number 17 arrived in Cancún, Quintana Roo, on July 11. The company has delivered 10 trains with four diesel wagons, and seven trains with four dual diesel and electric engines.
The 17 trains have traveled over 32,000 kilometers from the Alstom plant in Ciudad Sahagun, Hidalgo, to their destination in Quintana Roo. The Ministries of National Defense and Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, and the National Guard have all collaborated to ensure the safe journey of each 42 to 50-ton train.
The next phase of delivery includes three long-distance trains. Convoy number 18 is expected to arrive in September, while the remaining two are still in production. These long-distance trains, known as P’atal, will offer restaurant services and sleeping cabins. Each P'atal train will feature seven wagons, equipped with beds, bathrooms, and showers for a comfortable journey.
