Cancún Journalist Targeted by Hitman: Shocking Attack Revealed

César Guzmán, a crime journalist based in Cancún, Quintana Roo, was the target of a gun attack at his home following the release of an interview with a supposed hitman. This incident makes Guzmán the second journalist to be attacked in Mexico within a short span of time. Another reporter, known as Güero Hans, was assaulted in Caborca, Sonora, due to his investigative work.

Guzmán leads the news site Código Rojo. He reported that he was at home when he heard a motorcycle followed by two gunshots hitting the walls of his house. After a total of six shots were fired at his residence, he activated his panic button, a security measure provided by the Mechanism of Defense for Journalists. Authorities arrived at the scene twenty minutes later, having been alerted via a 911 call.

Despite the incident, Guzmán has vowed not to abandon his profession, which involves reporting on crime-related incidents. He has also requested additional security measures.

Two Journalists Attacked Within Hours of Each Other

On the same day, July 17, another crime reporter, Güero Hans, was also attacked with a firearm. Hans, who reports on crime through social media, was shot multiple times outside his home and subsequently hospitalized.

The Attorney General of Sonora stated that the attack occurred at 5:30 pm while Hans was at his residence. He is currently under police protection. The Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack. Hans is known for his work exposing corruption and violence in his region.
