As part of the 2024 Isla Mujeres Foundation Celebrations, the municipal government, under the leadership of Atenea Gómez, has announced the opening of nominations for the Medals of Tourism and Citizen Merit, as well as the Diosa Ixchel decoration. These awards aim to recognize the most outstanding citizens and institutions. The awards will be presented on August 17, during the celebration of the 174th anniversary of the island's founding.
Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde encourages the public, civil organizations, and other institutions to submit their nominations to the City Council's General Secretariat by August 2. Nominations should include general information about the candidates or institutions being put forward.
The awards, which include the José de Jesús Lima Gutiérrez Tourism Merit Medal and the Don Alfonso Ríos Azueta Citizen Merit Medal, are designed to inspire the community to excel in hospitality and to encourage the development of new projects that will benefit the municipality.
The winners will be announced during the 15th Public and Solemn Session of the Honorable City Council of Isla Mujeres. This event will take place on August 17 at the Municipal Explanade.
