The Isla Mujeres Municipal Government, under the leadership of Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has pledged to intensify its efforts against human trafficking. This commitment comes as part of the State Campaign “Trafficking is not Part of the Game” and the “Strategy against Commercial Sexual Exploitation in Quintana Roo”, initiatives spearheaded by the State Government.

In alignment with the launch of the “Strategy against Commercial Sexual Exploitation in Quintana Roo”, Mayor Gómez Ricalde has emphasized her administration's unwavering commitment to preventing and eradicating this heinous crime. She highlighted the particular vulnerability of tourist destinations to such criminal activities, which have devastating impacts on the lives of victims.

Since the start of her tenure, Mayor Gómez Ricalde has been working closely with Mara Lezama Espinosa, the first female Governor of Quintana Roo. Their shared goal is to foster well-being and prosperity by confronting criminal activities head-on.

Mayor Gómez Ricalde reaffirmed her dedication to the community of Isla Mujeres, pledging to collaborate with all levels of government, private sector entities, media outlets, and civil society organizations. Together, they aim to prevent human trafficking and continue to build a safe and orderly community.
