The regulation of digital transport platforms in Quintana Roo is making significant progress, according to the director of the Mobility Institute of Quintana Roo (IMOVEQROO), Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia. Four platforms, Didi, InDrive, Muévete, and Ola taxi, have already been authorized. The latter is owned by the local taxi drivers' union "Andrés Quintana Roo".
The IMOVEQROO director added that the process to authorize additional platforms is ongoing and is contingent on the companies' compliance with regulations. He noted that one platform is still in litigation. He emphasized that state law now permits these applications to operate legally, provided they meet the requirements set by the Institute.
"We are waiting for the other platforms to be authorized and the drivers of these platforms to get their permits," Urrutia said. He explained that by law, these platforms must share real-time information and submit updated operator registries every three months to ensure user safety.
Furthermore, Urrutia mentioned that the platforms can apply for registration as either public or private, or even both. Public platforms, such as Ola, have a simpler registration process as the Institute already has complete files of the affiliated taxi drivers.
So far, IMOVEQROO has not received any complaints about the currently operating platforms. However, penalties for non-compliance with regulations include loss of operating authorization in the state and cancellation of individual driver licenses.
Urrutia stressed the importance of paying attention to official announcements from the Institute to avoid misinformation. He also reiterated the Institute's commitment to ensuring safety and efficiency for all mobility options in the state.
