The proposed air route from Chetumal to Belize and San Pedro is deemed unfeasible due to its high operational costs and infrastructure requirements. Roanne Badillo, sales manager of Belize's Tropic Air, explained that the route would necessitate flights from Chetumal airport to the Belize airport terminal, and then onwards to San Pedro.
This proposed route would also require an immigration post at San Pedro, adding to the overall cost for both the user and the infrastructural resources in Belize. The route would be longer than traveling by car or sea, making it an unattractive option for travelers.
Currently, Tropic Air operates two daily flights from San Pedro to Cancun and vice versa. This air route significantly reduces the travel time between these two popular tourist destinations to just an hour and a half.
In addition to these regular flights, Tropic Air also offers charter flights from Cancun to Belize. These flights are in high demand, operating at full capacity with a maximum of 12 passengers per flight.
