In the first six months of the year, Cancún welcomed 45.6% of all international visitors arriving in Mexico. The country received nearly 12 million overseas tourists, predominantly from the United States, with Cancún serving as the primary point of entry. This data comes from a report released by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism.
During the summer season, the Mexican Caribbean reported a total of 487,800 tourists, with 38.5% hailing from the United States. This reinforces Cancún's status as a leading destination for international travelers.
According to a weekly report from the Ministry of Tourism in Quintana Roo, the region has an average occupancy rate of 76.4%. The continental zone of Isla Mujeres leads with over 80% occupancy, closely followed by Cancún and the Riviera Maya, each boasting average occupancies of 77% and 78% respectively. These two destinations are the mainstays of the tourist corridor, each offering over 45,000 hotel rooms.
The Mexican Caribbean continues to be a top destination for international visitors, with 38% from the United States and 30% from within Mexico. The Canadian and UK markets also contribute significantly to the tourist numbers.
The Ministry of Tourism reported that between January and June, Cancún's airport welcomed 5.4 million international tourists. This represents a 3.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023 and accounts for 45.6% of the total number of international tourists in Mexico. Cancún's airport significantly outperformed Mexico City's international airport, which received 2.1 million international tourists, making up just 17.7% of the total.
