Five new hotel complexes have recently opened in Quintana Roo, adding a total of 3,289 rooms. This expansion is expected to attract over a million additional visitors to the state.
According to the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, the largest of these new complexes is AVA Resorts, which has added 1,600 rooms in Cancun. Meanwhile, three new hotels in Isla Mujeres have contributed an additional 1,507 rooms. In the Riviera Maya, the Kanai resort has added 182 rooms.
Cancun is home to one of the RCD Hotel group's most ambitious projects, located at kilometer 22 of the hotel zone. This all-inclusive resort is expected to attract a large number of tourists, particularly those interested in gastronomy, with its 17 restaurants.
The Hyatt Group has also expanded its presence in the region, opening three new lodging centers. Two of these are in Cancun: the Hyatt Vivid Grand Island, which offers 400 rooms targeted at younger travelers, and the Vivid Grand Island, which has 660 rooms and caters to families and travelers seeking an all-inclusive experience. The group has also opened an adults-only resort in Costa Mujeres, called Secret.
In the Riviera Maya, a new luxury hotel has been built to cater to the high-income market. This hotel boasts 182 rooms and suites, including the largest penthouse suite in North America and a pool the size of a lake.
Eduardo Domínguez, Vice-President of the Association of Hotels of Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres, has stated that these new openings have increased the demand for labor in the area. As a result, the association will continue to host job fairs, with the next one offering 625 vacancies across 13 participating hotels. These positions range from operational roles to executive positions.
While new openings create new jobs, they also tend to draw talent from other hotels, increasing the overall demand for workers in the area.
