An infant's death in a Playa del Carmen laboratory is reportedly linked to alleged medical negligence. The incident has raised concerns in the La Candelaria community, where the laboratory is located.
The community is set to benefit from a new collection center, which aims to support over a thousand producers in the machining area. This initiative is expected to put an end to the practice of "coyotaje", a term often used to describe the exploitation of producers by middlemen.
Esteban Uxul Serralta, a representative of the community, underlined that the project will cut down on sales costs for producers. This will be achieved by eliminating the need to transport goods to Oxkutzcab in Yucatan.
The project, which has been in the works for years, is finally coming to fruition. The land for the collection center has been donated by the ejido, or community-owned farming cooperative, of La Candelaria. The remaining steps involve the formation of a cooperative and the commencement of construction on the collection center.
This new center is expected to benefit producers from other communities as well. In addition to this, there are plans to construct a road connecting Santa Gertrudis with Puerto Arturo, which will bring benefits to hundreds of families.
