CHETUMAL – The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico announced that three of the seven municipalities in Quintana Roo, with a recurrent presence of sargassum, currently maintain a low levels of the problematic algae. The remaining four municipalities are report moderate levels and none are higher.
An infographic from the federal agency specified that those municipalities are Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos and Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen), whose beaches report high levels of cleanliness.
Meanwhile, Benito Juárez, Cozumel, Tulum and Othon P. Blanco (Chetumal), all report a moderate presence of the algae, and their beaches do not have the same cleanliness levels as those previously mentioned.
The information from SEMAR added that from last March until now, it has coordinated the collection of 31,130.22 tons of sargassum throughout the state of Quintana Roo.
The information on the “traffic lights” of the beaches was provided by each of the indicated municipalities.
