Starting December 19, 2024, Aeromexico, the Mexican airline, will provide a direct flight connecting Cancún's (CUN) and Miami's (MIA) international airports. This new service is a result of a Joint Collaboration Agreement (JCA) with Delta Air Lines, aimed at enhancing connectivity between the two countries.
The introduction of the Cancún-Miami route means that the Aeromexico-Delta partnership will now cover over 65 routes between Mexico and the United States. This equates to more than 180 daily departures and arrivals, offering an average of 31,000 seats per day.
The new route complements Aeromexico's existing service to Miami, which currently includes five daily flights from Mexico City. The airline also operates approximately 140 weekly arrivals and departures in Florida, via routes from Orlando and Tampa, offering 24,500 seats per week.
The Cancún-Miami flights are scheduled to depart Cancún at 11:10 and arrive in Miami at 13:05. The return flight will leave Miami at 7:55 and land in Cancún at 9:55. These flights will be operated using 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which can accommodate 166 passengers: 16 in the Premier Cabin, 18 in AM Plus, and 132 in the Economy Cabin.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has expressed optimism about the new route, noting that it will contribute to the continued growth of tourism, job creation, and shared prosperity in Quintana Roo. She also believes that it will facilitate increased visitor flow to new tourist destinations in the central and southern parts of the state, marking a new era for the Mexican Caribbean.
