Cancún City Council Discusses Public Transport Fare Increase
This week, Cancún City Council in Quintana Roo will meet with public transportation concessionaires to discuss a potential increase in transportation fares. Benito Juárez's municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, stated that the City Council is open to discussions with the concessionaire companies to examine the possibility of a fare hike, while adhering to the established procedures for such requests.
The discussions are anticipated to be productive and aim to reach a fair agreement for both the concessionaires and the public. Transportation companies have submitted technical studies to support their proposal for a fare increase. They argue that operating costs have risen, and they are seeking a fare adjustment that accurately reflects the current costs of providing the service.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Mobility of Quintana Roo has been enforcing compliance with existing fares. They have penalized units in Playa del Carmen for charging higher fares than permitted. In Cancún, efforts are ongoing to ensure that fares remain stable and within established limits.
This situation underscores the importance of open dialogue and transparency in regulating public transportation fares. The goal is to strike a balance between the needs of the concessionaires and the users.
