In the early hours of Saturday, August 31, a serious car accident took place on the exit from Playa del Carmen towards Cancun. A drunk driver lost control of his vehicle at high speed and crashed into a police checkpoint.
The crash happened as the driver approached speed bumps, leading to a high-impact collision. Thankfully, no police or military personnel present at the scene were injured.
Despite the severity of the crash, the driver himself was unharmed and was promptly apprehended by the authorities. The impact was so forceful that the car's engine was dislodged and scattered across the road.
The police checkpoint's roof collapsed due to the impact of the crash. The vehicle was completely totaled, with parts strewn across the highway.
The driver now faces not only the loss of his car but also significant financial repercussions as he will be held responsible for the damages caused by his drunk driving.
