On President Obrador's final visit to Quintana Roo, at least 250 people, including Federal Judicial Power (PJF) employees and members of the public, staged a protest. The demonstration took place on a Friday night in Cancún, with the protesters expressing their opposition to the proposed judicial reform.
The group began their march from the roundabout at Bonampak Avenue and Nichupté, heading towards the "El Ceviche" monument. Among the protestors was Senator Mayuli Latifa Martínez Simón, who has been actively involved in federal mobilizations. She received a petition from the PJF workers in Quintana Roo, urging the youth and general public to join in their opposition to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's proposal.
Martínez Simón declared her unwavering opposition to the reform, stating, "I will stand firm until the last minute, in opposing the reform of the Judiciary." There was also a demonstration in Chetumal, where workers of the Superior Court of Justice of Quintana Roo were encouraged to join the movement.
The proposed reform has sparked discussions and warnings from various organizations, including the United Nations, business and financial entities, rating agencies, and embassies. It is expected that the first reading of the draft reform will occur in a full Senate session next Tuesday, with the debate and vote scheduled for Wednesday. If the reform is approved, it will be immediately sent to the state congresses for endorsement by at least 17 of them before it can be promulgated.
