The Quintana Roo Women's Institute (IQM) has partnered with the Quintana Roo Council of Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies (COQHCYT) and SEQ to deliver the "Robotics for Girls" workshop across various communities in the state. The workshop provides a fun and innovative environment designed to enhance the scientific and technological skills of girls, enabling them to independently create their own mechatronic systems. Over 20 schools throughout Quintana Roo are set to benefit from this program.
This initiative aligns with the state government's commitment to comprehensive education and the empowerment of girls, preparing them for future opportunities. The workshop is part of the New Deal for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo, a project championed by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. The activities are tailored to promote inclusion and empowerment of girls and teenagers in STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), inspiring participants to explore programming and robotics.
So far, the workshops have been conducted in schools located in the Othón P. Blanco and Felipe Carrillo Puerto municipalities. In the coming weeks, the program will extend to the municipalities of Bacalar, Puerto Morelos, Lázaro Cárdenas, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, José María Morelos, Solidaridad, Cozumel, and Benito Juárez. The public is encouraged to visit the Institute's social media platforms for updates on future workshop dates.
The IQM remains committed to the continuous evaluation and improvement of these strategies. A follow-up system is being established to monitor participant progress and enhance additional resources that stimulate interest and skills in STEAM fields. Collaboration with other institutions will be crucial in expanding the reach and quality of initiatives in the region.
