On Tuesday afternoon, a significant police operation disrupted normal activities on Tulum Avenue in Cancún's Supermanzana 22 district. The local Banorte branch manager and his attorney were arrested by Public Security forces, leading to confusion among pedestrians and bank employees. Both men were taken away in a Municipal Police vehicle, accompanied by at least eight other units. Eyewitnesses reported that the police had an arrest warrant for the bank manager. There were also suggestions that investigative agents may have been present to execute the warrant, but this could not be confirmed. The operation sparked interest and speculation due to the unusual show of force in this typically peaceful area.
The situation intensified when the attorney, believed to be representing the branch manager, was also taken into custody. Bank employees reported that the attorney resisted arrest, leading to a physical altercation with the officers, who had to use force to subdue him. Following these events, the bank temporarily closed its doors while employees spoke with authorities to gain a clearer understanding of the situation. However, they were soon able to resume their daily tasks.
At this time, the authorities have not released specific information about the reasons for the arrests. Further details about the case are expected to be released in the coming hours.
