President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is set to inaugurate the new sleeper and dining cars on the Mayan Train route on Friday, September 20. The journey will commence in Cancún and end at the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá. Here, President Obrador will also inaugurate a new hotel constructed by the engineers of Sedena.
The president did not confirm if this would be his final visit to the Mayan Train. However, he did elaborate on the new service. It will consist of a seven-car train, designed for long journeys, recently delivered by the Alstom company.
President Obrador will be joined by the elected president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. He has also extended an open invitation to regional governors to join him on this notable journey. This event marks a significant milestone in the passenger train project. The next stage, a freight train, will be the responsibility of the future president of Mexico.
On Saturday, September 21, President Obrador will travel with the elected president to Oaxaca. There, he will inaugurate artisanal roads and award more than 200 construction certificates. The event will take place in Guelatao, where he will inaugurate the "Benito’s Path". This is in honor of Benito Juárez, considered one of Mexico's greatest presidents, who migrated from his village to the city of Oaxaca, and then to Mexico City.
On Sunday, September 22, President Obrador will continue his tour to Veracruz. Meanwhile, the elected president will travel to Mexico City to attend the Morena party convention.
