On September 20, 2024, in Playa del Carmen, Solidaridad, a new dog adoption center was inaugurated. This initiative, led by President Lili Campos and the Secretary of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change, Lourdes Várguez, is part of the ongoing efforts to improve animal welfare in the region. The center, located at the Cencaaz sanctuary, also includes an ambulance equipped with a canine operating room.

During the inauguration, President Campos highlighted the importance of providing a suitable space for dogs to receive the necessary care. To accommodate more animals, 40 additional pens have been constructed. Campos announced, "We currently have 144 pets ready for adoption. They are all in excellent health and eagerly waiting for a loving home."

Lourdes Várguez expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the realization of this project. She said, "This adoption center, formerly a warehouse, now has 25 spaces dedicated to puppies ready for adoption. This transformation allows us to maintain the animals in a healthy environment until they find their forever homes."

Várguez also acknowledged the taxpayers and department members who funded the project because of their love for animals. She also highlighted the innovative use of the canine ambulance, which was repurposed from a unit provided by the Secretary of Health. This mobile operating room can provide medical attention and assist in wildlife rescue throughout the municipality.
