Firefighters in Isla Mujeres rapidly responded to a fire at a local restaurant on Saturday. The incident occurred within the Mayan Monkey Beach Club, previously known as Nómadas. Thanks to the swift response of the firefighters and municipal public security, a potentially serious situation was averted.

Emergency services were alerted when the restaurant's pizza oven chimney started producing sparks, which subsequently set the palapa roof alight. The traditional pizza oven within the establishment was lit on Saturday, and sparks from the chimney ignited the grass roof overhead. However, the Isla Mujeres firefighters successfully managed to control the fire, preventing it from spreading.

Despite a significant portion of the roof being destroyed, the fire was contained, and the overall damage was deemed minimal.

The Municipal Police were also involved in the response to the incident, which began when the oven under the palapa roof started to produce sparks. The incident took place on September 21, 2024.

Civil Protection and the Municipal Police are currently working alongside the island's firefighters to establish the exact cause of the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
