Quintana Roo Plans New Temples Inspired by Cancún’s Sanctuary

The Sanctuary María Undoer of Knots in Cancún is a popular religious destination, attracting over 12,000 visitors each week. This success has inspired plans for similar temples in other municipalities within the state of Quintana Roo. The rise in religious tourism in the region has sparked this initiative, with the aim of providing a place of worship and solace for the faithful.

Bishop Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas of the Cancún-Chetumal Diocese revealed that tourist hotspots such as Tulum could soon have their own sanctuaries. These will serve as focal points for those seeking peace, tranquility, and a personal encounter with God in a prayerful and welcoming environment.

Currently, some cities in the state that are earmarked for a Sanctuary María Undoer of Knots have a small chapel within the church or a niche dedicated to the Virgin. The bishop also reported that plans are underway to expand the Cancún sanctuary. This project includes the construction of a hotel and other attractions, allowing congregation members to stay for multiple days of prayer and retreats. The bishop stated, "We already have the land and could begin next year."

The Sanctuary María Undoer of Knots in Cancún continues to grow in popularity, not only in the country but also globally. The local Tourism Department reports a steady increase in visitor numbers, highlighting the potential success of the planned temples in Quintana Roo.
