Tropical Storm Milton Triggers Blue Alerts in Three States

Governor Mara Lezama has declared a blue alert for the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Benito Juárez, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos. This announcement comes in response to the intensifying tropical storm, Milton. Authorities in Veracruz, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo issued the blue alerts, indicating a minimum danger level, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

The National Water Commission, through the National Meteorological Service (NMS), stated that as of 11:25 yesterday, Central Mexico time, Milton had evolved. The storm's center was located 355 kilometers north-northeast of Veracruz, Veracruz, and 590 kilometers west-northwest of Progreso, Yucatán. The storm is expected to bring maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, gusts of 85 kilometers per hour, and move to the north-northeast at 6 kilometers per hour.

Due to the storm's cloud bands, intense rainfall is forecasted for Tamaulipas and Veracruz, ranging from 75 to 150 millimeters. The NMS warned that such precipitation could lead to landslides, increased river and stream levels, and potential overflows and flooding in low-lying areas. Therefore, residents are urged to heed the authorities' warnings.

The Civil Protection Secretary of the State of Veracruz issued a blue alert for the northern zone municipalities. The official warned that the tropical storm's formation will bring heavy rain to the northern territory of Veracruz.

Governor Mara Lezama of Quintana Roo also declared a blue alert for the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Benito Juárez, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos. Similarly, Civil Protection Yucatán announced a blue alert for the state due to the presence of tropical storm Milton.
