Senator Eugenio Gino Segura has initiated his campaign promise with the launch of "Sowing Hope", a large-scale reforestation project. The project aims to plant 487,637 trees across Quintana Roo, symbolizing each vote that led him to the Senate. "Sowing Hope is more than just a fulfilled promise. It's a commitment to the environment and future generations," said Senator Segura at the program's kickoff at Equity Park, on Avenida 20 de Noviembre in Cancún.
Nearly a thousand volunteers, mostly young people, gathered to participate in the event, marking the start of a six-year intensive reforestation effort. The project plans to plant 300 trees daily for the next six years. The trees will be native species of the state, carefully chosen to ensure their adaptation and contribution to local biodiversity.
The planting locations have been strategically selected, with a focus on areas impacted by fires, urban expansion, and other human activities that have degraded the natural environment. "We are using heat maps to identify the areas of Quintana Roo most in need of environmental restoration," explained Segura, highlighting the importance of a scientific and planned approach to maximize the initiative's impact.
The initiative, which aims to restore greenery to affected areas, aligns with the policies of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, championed by Governor Mara Lezama. This plan encourages sustainable development that prioritizes the preservation of the state's natural assets, a crucial factor for its economic and social well-being.
The planting of these 487,637 saplings through "Sowing Hope" will help mitigate the effects of climate change, improve air quality, regulate temperature in urban areas, and provide a vital habitat for various species. "This project is a testament to the power of unity and citizen commitment. Together we are sowing life, oxygen, and above all, hope for Quintana Roo," concluded Gino Segura, inviting the community to continue participating in future planting days.
Therefore, the "Sowing Hope" program stands as a living promise, a symbol of commitment to a greener and more sustainable future for the state.
