Mexico, a country with a rich tapestry of places to explore, is a popular destination for tourists. In 2023, it welcomed approximately 21 million foreign visitors, making it the sixth most visited country globally. The primary draw? Its stunning beaches. The Federal Ministry of Tourism recently revealed the top five Mexican beach destinations for the first half of 2024.

  1. PLAYACAR, PLAYA DEL CARMEN, QUINTANA ROO: Playacar, a tourist complex in Solidaridad, Quintana Roo, topped the list with an 89% occupancy rate, marking a 4.9% increase from 2023. The complex is divided into two sections: Phase 1, a residential area close to the sea, and Phase 2, the hotel and resort area. The beach is known for its clear waters, gentle waves, palm trees, and white sand, making it an ideal spot for relaxation.

  2. AKUMAL, QUINTANA ROO: Akumal, located in the Riviera Maya near the archaeological zone of Tulum, ranks second with an 81.6% occupancy rate. It is famous for its turquoise waters and is a sanctuary for sea turtles, which visit the beach between April and October to lay their eggs. Visitors can snorkel, dive, and swim with dolphins and turtles.

  3. CABO SAN LUCAS, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR: Third on the list is Cabo San Lucas, with an 80.3% occupancy rate. The beaches of El Médano, El Chileno, Santa María, and Lover's Beach are must-visit spots. Located in the municipality of Los Cabos, where the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California meet, the area offers rocky landscapes, blue waters, and serene sunsets.

  1. NUEVO NAYARIT, NAYARIT: Nuevo Nayarit, formerly known as Nuevo Vallarta, is the fourth most visited destination with an 80.2% occupancy rate. Located in the municipality of Bahía de Banderas, it's part of the Riviera Nayarit on the Pacific coast. The tranquil atmosphere of its beaches makes it perfect for a romantic getaway. The area offers a variety of activities, including snorkeling, hiking, ATV tours, and excursions to the Marietas Islands.

  2. CANCUN, QUINTANA ROO: Cancun, with a 77.2% occupancy rate, ranks fifth. Located in the municipality of Benito Juárez, in Quintana Roo, it's known for its white sand, clear water, and reefs. The Boulevard Kukulkán, the famous hotel zone, stretches over 25 kilometers and boasts numerous restaurants, shopping centers, nightclubs, and luxury hotels.
