Two videos have recently surfaced online, showing two individuals publicly condemning a local business on Fifth Avenue, in Playa del Carmen. The business, known as Animalandia Maya, allegedly exploits lion and panther cubs for tourist photographs. Despite being reported for six years, the business continues to operate under a different name, but with the same owner, Félix Sandoval Jaime.
The videos, both shared on TikTok in 2021, feature a Russian and a Chilean individual. They claim that the animals are sedated to allow tourists to safely take souvenir photos with them. Both individuals have called on the authorities to intervene and put an end to the alleged exploitation of these young animals.
Despite the ongoing reports and public outcry, the situation remains unchanged. The business continues to operate, apparently without any legal repercussions.
