The Consumer Defense Office in the Mexican Caribbean Region has reported that most complaints in the state are against basic service providers such as water and electricity companies. Ismael Malacón Osuna, a representative of the office, noted that there has been a significant increase in complaints against various companies this year compared to 2023.

Last year, complaints rose by 20 percent compared to 2022, and this year they are already 15 percent higher than in 2023. The companies receiving the most complaints are Aguakan, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), and several airlines, due to the large number of services they provide.

Osuna stated, "We are receiving more complaints than this time last year. We interpret this as a sign of the public's trust in our authority to resolve their issues. Complaints come from a variety of areas including car agencies, airlines, and carpenters, among others."

So far, the office has registered 3,000 complaints, a figure that Osuna believes indicates they are performing well. He asserted that the office team will continue to protect and defend consumers.

Osuna also highlighted the high rate of successful conciliations achieved in the Cancun office. He explained that all suppliers involved in complaints are contacted during the process, and they usually reach an agreement. He said, "This success is also due to the experience my colleagues bring to the hearings, as they work to foster a positive relationship with the provider and achieve a successful resolution for the consumer."

Regarding potential changes under the new federal administration, Osuna stated that the current goal remains the protection and defense of consumers. He also hinted at potential collaboration agreements with some municipalities and the continuation of regular operations.
