Mototaxi drivers in Playa del Carmen are not planning to increase their rates in the near future. Instead, their focus is on expanding their services to the rapidly developing areas of the city, particularly to the west.

The priority for these drivers is to extend their operating zones. This would enable them to offer their services in newly developed areas. At present, mototaxis are authorized to operate in two specific zones: Villas del Sol and La Guadalupana.

Despite the adequacy of the current number of mototaxis servicing these zones, there is an acknowledgement that more may be needed as the city continues to grow. "We have the necessary units for these areas, but with the growth, we might need more,” said a representative from the Regional Confederation of Mexican Workers (Crom).

Mototaxis have become increasingly popular in Playa del Carmen, particularly in outlying areas where other forms of transportation are limited. With their planned expansion, mototaxi drivers aim to cater to the transportation needs of new urban developments in the municipality of Solidaridad.
