Journalist’s Father Rescued from Virtual Kidnapping in Cancún

Cancún police recently intervened in a suspected virtual kidnapping case involving an elderly man in the Supermanzana 66 area. The man, who is the father of a local journalist, was believed to be held against his will.

The incident began when a 911 call was placed by a man who reported his father's possible abduction. The caller, identified as Cancún journalist Kumul Salazar, had been unable to reach his father for some time.

In response to the call, officers from Benito Juárez's Citizen Security and Traffic Secretariat launched a search operation. They located the elderly man's vehicle near José López Portillo Avenue. Upon closer inspection, they found an elderly man inside the vehicle who matched the description of the missing person.

After his discovery, the police explained the situation to the elderly man and informed him that his son had been trying to contact him. The man then revealed that he had received a phone call demanding ransom for his son, who the caller claimed was kidnapped. He was instructed not to hang up or answer any other calls.

Both the elderly man and his son received medical assistance following the incident. The relevant authorities were notified to carry out further investigations.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of virtual kidnapping scams. It highlights the importance of staying calm and not falling prey to such schemes.
