Transformative Workshop Empowers Quintana Roo Judges | Tulum Success

On October 14, the First Training and Specialization by Subject Workshop for Quintana Roo Judges took place in Tulum. The event aimed to strengthen the justice system in the state and attracted over 100 judges and justices from across Quintana Roo. The opening ceremony was led by Heyden Cebada Rivas, Chief Justice of the State Judiciary. He was joined by Diego Castañón Trejo, Mayor of Tulum; representative Jorge Sanen Cervantes, and Luis Vázquez Bernal, Second Commander of the 64th Infantry Battalion of the Sedena.

Over the course of the two-day workshop, Chief Justice Cebada Rivas underscored the importance of ongoing training to meet the challenges posed by the recent reform of the Judiciary. He emphasized that continual learning is crucial for an effective transformation of the justice system in Quintana Roo.

One of the standout moments of the event was a keynote lecture on “Judging with a gender perspective”. This was delivered by Justice José Luis Zayas Roldán, of the Federal Judiciary in Quintana Roo.

The workshop also featured specialized training sessions in various areas of law. For instance, a session on "Conducting criminal hearings" was presented by Luis Joel Escalante Pavía for criminal judges. Meanwhile, María del Rosario Cervantes García taught a session on "The New National Code of Civil and Family Procedures" aimed at civil and family judges.

In commercial law, Lizzie Fabiola Villanueva Acevedo, President of the College of Mediators and Conciliators of Quintana Roo, offered a session on "Mediation or conciliation techniques for the resolution of commercial processes". Rogelia Gómez Vargas presented "Analysis and reflections on the implementation of the new Labor Process" for labor judges.

The workshop concluded with a session on "Soft skills to be a good leader" led by psychologist Connie de Garay. She highlighted the importance of interpersonal skills in judicial leadership.
