Two officials from Cancún's Cereso prison have been suspended following the escape of inmate Gilberto N. The suspensions, enacted by the Citizens Security Secretariat (SSC), come in the wake of Gilberto N.'s escape. Gilberto N. was in custody due to his involvement in a case concerning the abuse of two minors, one of whom tragically lost their life.

The suspended officials are Jorge Armando López Rosas, the director of Cereso, and Sergio Javier Alcalá Encinas, the prison's operational commander. Gilberto N.'s flight from the municipal jail has prompted an extensive city-wide search.

Security forces from all three levels of government, in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo State (FGE), are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the escape.

Gilberto N. was facing charges for his alleged participation in severe crimes, including qualified homicide, rape, and aggravated injury. These crimes were committed against two minors on October 8th. Gilberto N. is accused of sexually abusing and murdering a 2-year-old child and physically attacking a 6-year-old child, both of whom he was related to.

The search for Gilberto N. is ongoing. Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance and are encouraging anyone with information about Gilberto N.'s whereabouts to contact the emergency lines #911 or #089.
