Get Ready for Day of the Dead at Isla Mujeres Cemeteries!

A person in a reflective vest stands at the entrance of a cemetery marked 'CEMENTERIO. MUNICIPAL' while another kneels by the gate, with a ladder nearby and headstones visible in the background.

As the Day of the Dead approaches, the Municipal Government of Isla Mujeres, under the leadership of Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, is ensuring the upkeep of the municipal cemeteries in the Centro and La Gloria neighborhoods. Irma Dube Delgado Moguel, the Director of Government, stated that work began last week to restore the perimeter wall of the Municipal Cemetery in the Centro neighborhood. Both cemeteries are also receiving a fresh coat of paint and general maintenance to ensure they are in prime condition for the upcoming celebration.

In collaboration with the Parks and Gardens Department, the government has also undertaken a comprehensive clearing and cleaning of both cemeteries. Delgado Moguel has invited local families to participate in the Conviviality with the Souls event, a key part of the extensive Luz y Vida Festival "Between the Living and the Dead," set to take place on October 29th at the La Gloria neighborhood cemetery.

In addition to the festival, a tomb cleaning and care day will commence at 2:00 pm. This will be followed by the Traditional Rosary for the Eternal Rest of Our Loved Ones at 5:00 pm. Delgado Moguel also highlighted the schedule for the Day of the Dead, noting that a mass and blessing of the tombs will occur on November 2 at 10:00 am at the La Gloria cemetery and at 3:00 pm at the Centro cemetery.

Finally, Delgado Moguel encouraged all island families to participate in these activities and to maintain the cleanliness of their loved ones' tombs.
