People dressed in costumes and holding candles participate in a night procession for Day of the Dead festivities, with a crowd and festive decorations in the background.

The municipal government of Isla Mujeres, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has initiated the Day of the Dead celebrations with The Callejoneada. This event is a vibrant parade along the famous Hidalgo Street, filled with music, joy, and enthusiasm. The parade is part of the Arrival of the Spirits program and signifies the start of the fourth edition of the Light and Life Festival "Among the Living and the Dead".

Various departments of the Municipality participated in The Callejoneada. Participants, dressed as Skulls, Monks, Witches, and Catrinas, all in black, paraded down Hidalgo Street. This street is a popular tourist spot, and the parade concluded at the Municipal Esplanade.

Mayor Gómez Ricalde highlighted that these cultural activities offer unique family experiences. They also serve as a reminder of loved ones who may no longer be with us physically, but continue to live on in our hearts.

The mayor extended an invitation to both local families and tourists to participate in the extensive program of activities for the Light and Life Festival "Among the Living and the Dead". The festival will run until November 2nd on the Ínsula, and will be celebrated in the Continental Zone on November 3rd.
