Fernanda Alvear, the "Fuerza y Corazón por Quintana Roo" coalition candidate for the presidency of Puerto Morelos, has promised to implement a strategy that will turn the municipality into a world-class tourist destination. This pledge was made during a meeting with nautical tour operators.

Alvear emphasized that for the first time, the Town Hall will include three council members who are experts in tourism, a crucial sector for the local economy. She met with operators and owners in the nautical tourism industry, highlighting the potential of the Arrecife de Puerto Morelos national park.

Alvear's government project aims to boost the local economy by enhancing the tourism offer. The goal is to provide more than the current 30 experiences available to tourists.

Tour operators have expressed their concerns about the lack of tangible results despite their participation in tourist fairs. They requested a review and regulation of rates. Alvear also met with local restaurant owners, who asked for a boost in tourism to counteract the low visitor numbers.

The Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotels Association disclosed that Puerto Morelos currently has the lowest economic growth in tourism.

In response, Alvear proposed a beach maintenance program. This includes the rehabilitation and cleaning of docks and sand dunes across a maximum of 10 kilometers of coastline.
